WE DON’T STOP PLAYING BECAUSE WE GROW OLD. WE GROW OLD BECAUSE WE STOP PLAYING.

Without a doubt, the best part about building paddle boards in Austin is the fascinating people that I’ve met along the way. As Jarvis Boards has grown, I’ve built boards for people ranging from weekend warriors, actors, CEO’s, pastors and everyone in between. A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of making a personal delivery to another fascinating person named Lisa here in Austin, TX.
She is a recently retired Grandmother of six and wanted to get into the sport of stand up paddle boarding so that she could explore the multitude of rivers, lakes, and waterways around central Texas. She originally reached out having limited to no experience paddle boarding and wanted a board that she could use on relatively calm water.
Needless to say I was over the top excited to meet Lisa and her wood worker husband at Lady Bird lake here in Austin, TX for a demo. After a five minute tutorial, it was finally time to get on the water. At this point, I think I was more nervous than she was. Despite having limited paddle boarding experience, she was as cool as a cucumber when she hopped on her wood sup and paddled away. Literally two minutes after getting on her wooden paddle board, to my delight she says, “Oh wow, this isn’t that hard!”
To me this delivery is a perfect illustration for what it's like to try anything new. Whether it’s paddle boarding, learning a new language or taking that adventure vacation, we often procrastinate indefinitely because of fear. Once we take that first step, we usually realize that there was nothing to fear at all, and that a world of new amazing experiences awaits.
