BUILDER SPOTLIGHT: FROM MOSCOW, IDAHO
Dogs are more than pets, they are family. Meet this builder from Moscow, Idaho who dedicated a cute little spot for his dog on his DIY wooden paddle board. It just makes our heart happy seeing it!
Board Model:
For this hollow core DIY wood paddle board project he used our San Marcos 11'4" paddle board plan.
Favorite part and most challenging part of the building process:
The most challenging part for me was putting the rails on. It was difficult for me to get them to lay tight against the top and bottom deck at the tip and tail. I think I'd do it a bit differently if I were doing it again. Favorite part, no surprise, was the first coat of epoxy over the fiberglass. The yellow cedar and purple heart just came alive.
Lesson learned during the process:
Probably the greatest lesson for me was being reminded of the reward of seeing something through to completion. Honestly, the frame kit was an impulse purchase when I saw it on sale. I've built lots of things before, but I've always been more of a framing carpenter than a finish carpenter. If I had known how much work it was going to be, I might not have done it! But I'm glad I did. The board hangs on the wall in the basement, and every time I look at it I feel the pride of owning such a great looking, great handling board that I built!
We agree—it’s a fine looking board and plus points on the cute little dog logo! We hope to see it hit the waters this summer time!
