BUILDER SPOTLIGHT: FROM PHOENIX, ARIZONA
What could get better than watching the sun melt into the ocean and enjoying a paddle on a wooden paddleboard you made with your own two hands. This builder from Arizona took his build on the beach of Sonora, Mexico and it really suits perfectly with the beautiful view!
Know more about his DIY journey below.
Board Model:
For this hollow core DIY wood paddle board project he used our San Jacinto 11'8" paddle board plan.
Favorite part and most challenging part of the building process:
Picking out what you want your board to look like and then seeing your design come out exactly the way you pictured it was probably my favorite part. I was lucky that we had everything we needed to build it in our garage.
Cutting our boards too thick and getting them to bend the way the board demands, gluing them down and clamping without them slipping or popping out of place was probably the most challenging.
Lesson learned during the process:
Cut your strips thinner and be careful with sanding. Also, don’t be afraid to make your own vents and handle and don’t let the build intimidate you. It was definitely a challenge, but the first time you get in the water makes it worth it!
Indeed, the experience and satisfaction you get when you see your board come to life really hits different! We hope that this builder will inspire you to work on your project too, and that you will feel the same rewarding feeling that he felt.
