There is something magical about creating something with your own two hands. Building your own hollow core paddle board will be one of the most rewarding projects that you'll tackle.
The San Marcos is the most advanced all-around wooden paddle board we've ever created. Weighing 26 pounds, it is the perfect SUP for all of your adventures including fitness paddling, surfing, yoga or just relaxing on the water. Thanks to the planing hull design, it is a versatile board that is equally at home on flat water as it is playing in the surf.
Because of this versatility, the San Marcos is our most popular paddle board as it works great for such a wide range of paddlers in vary conditions. Available in two sizes to match paddlers weight.
Like all of our paddle board plans, we offer a range of options ranging for plans, to kits, workshops and how-to-training.
Our builders come to us with a wide range of skill sets and needs for building their own board. Because of this, we offer a range of paddle board ordering options ranging from digital plans, paper plans, frame kits and locally grown kits which includes everything that you need to build a board except the outer wood for the skins.
Our frame kitsare our most popular option as they save the first time builder considerable time in pre-cutting their own frame and ensure accuracy.
Our locally grown kits are our most complete kits and feature everything needed to build your board except power tools and the wood for the decks and rails. We’ve found that most customers would like to source their wood locally so they can select the patterns and colors that best suits their needs.
We designed our kits to make them as easy as possible for the first time builder with a limited number of tools.
Are these identical to your production boards? - Yes and no. These are identical in that it is the exact same shape as our production boards. They are different in that they use a strip building method with is better suited for the home builder.
How long does it take? - Boards typically take between 20 and 60 hours to complete. What tools to I need? - We’ve designed our kits so that they can be built using a limited number of expensive tools. At a minimum you’ll need a good sander, a block plain, clamps, a handsaw and router. For a complete list of tools, check our latest blog post.
Do I need to build a special table? - No! We’ve designed our kits so that you don’t need to create a special “rocker table” which only adds costs and time to your build.
Why don’t you include the wood for the skins? - One of the joys in building boards is that each one is unique. Customers like to use a wide range of different woods to achieve the look the they want. For this reason, we encourage builders to source their wood locally.
Where do I get wood for the outer skins? - Wood can be had from a number of sources including your local big box hardware store. the planks will need to be milled to 1/4 thickness. Wood prices vary from region to region but expect to pay anywhere from $150 dollars to $450 dollars for lumber for your board. Some of our favorite woods to use are Cedar, Paulownia, pine and Cypress.
