As we have been stuck at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it also made it possible to take on new projects and hobbies since we now have more free time than usual—apparently for some of us.

Today we spotlight another builder who made the most out of his time amidst the year of uncertainty by building a beautiful, hollow wooden SUP board.

Board Model:
For this hollow core wood paddle board project he used our San Jacinto 10'8" paddle board plan.

Favorite part and most challenging part of the building process:
My favorite part was slowly watching it come together and looking forward to the next step—each one building more confidence. But my greatest moment was when I stood on the board, it was stable and when I started paddling it tracked straight. I had done it!

The most challenging part of the whole process for me was not having any woodworking or glassing experience. I had to do a lot of research and rely on friends. Each phase had its own set of challenges, but with patience and due diligence it all came together.

Lesson learned during the process:
When you set your mind and commit to something, nothing will stop you from achieving it. In this case, lack of experience, cold weather, COVID, avulsed fingers, work, and family obligations were just some of the obstacles I had to overcome.

Aside from sharing his story with us, it was also nice of @jstrailrunner to show us how his wooden SUP board came together in a video montage. It’s definitely worth checking out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bGj3yXSgVo
